About the Course

Self-advocacy is an important skill for individuals who lack the ability to express wants and needs. The degree of self-determination amongst people with disabilities be that physical, developmental or cognitive can have an impact on the quality of life they lead. Those with self-determination skills have a higher degree of autonomy. Teaching self-advocacy to individuals with different communication profiles can be challenging. In this course, you'll learn essential instructional components for self-determination, and how to modify skill building for a variety of learners. You'll also learn how to facilitate communication, choice making and goal selection, and the key elements to teaching individual rights.
