The Impact of Social Media on Student Well-Being
Students are using social media more than ever before, and the impact on well-being can be seen in the classroom. In this course, Dr. Alexandra Makos provides a detailed history of social media, explains how the design of social media effects student well-being and gives concrete solutions to not only manage the use of social media in the classroom but also to use it in ways that will improve the well-being of students.

Author Biography: Dr. Alexandra Makos is an Assistant Professor of Online Learning for the department of Applied Psychology and Human Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Her research includes work on online learning design, technology and social media use in adolescent development, and communication in online environments. Given the attention to (educational) technology use during the COVID-19 pandemic in school-aged children, she is taking the time to explore how the targeted use of particular educational technology combined with online learning design can support a child’s social development and well-being.
